Accumulation of snow and ice

It is essential that the external condenser of a heat pump is at all times clear of piles of snow and ice to eliminate the risk of breakage and allow a good operating condition.

The heat generated by a heat pump during operation virtually melts all the snow and ice that settles on the outdoor condenser.

However, during a snow or ice storm, it is very important to clear accumulations left by bad weather. If there is a large layer of ice on the top and sides of a heat pump, ice must be thawed with boiling water. NEVER BREAK THE ICE WITH YOUR HANDS OR WITH A BLUNT OBJECT!

If you wish to install a roof over the heat pump, you must respect the clearance of 36 inches above the unit as required by the manufacturers.

However, some heat pump manufacturers offer the option of adding a protective hat.

TYPE OF TROUBLES CAUSED BY ACCUMULATION:

  1. Condenser motor seized;
  2. Unbalanced condenser fan;
  3. Defrost mode impossible to perform;
  4. Risk of compressor failure due to lack of ventilation.

AND MANY OTHER TYPES OF FAULTS.
